Questions and Answers
I know many of you will ask me many questions about my trip, and I will try to answer the best I can. If you know me, though, if I can write, I do much better. It takes me a while to sort through my thoughts and feelings, and I don’t do well with on-the-spot questions. I will try to address the main questions here with thoughtfulness and detail. Q: What Did You Learn? A: I learnt to do hard things — step out of my comfort zone and do what I would have opted out of if given the[...]
Bye Bye Bethesda
Introduction: Woah, 3 months in Taiwan have come and gone. I am no longer 18 years old; my 20th year has come. I look back at my last year and see all the amazing things God has done in my life. I would say that 18 was my best year yet. Never would I have dreamed of doing something like this Taiwan trip, but that just shows God's ways are not my ways, nor are His thoughts my thoughts. Final Recap Week: Monday: The whole 3rd floor, including both teachers, took my mom and me out for a very special[...]
This Weeks Highlights
This week was super crazy although pretty fun as well. Here are some highlights! Sleepover: I've really connected with the 3rd floor in a totally new way these last few weeks. Tian and Esther have been super busy with their German friends, and Mirjam with her work. I did feel lonely at first but then I found something I love. The 3rd floor has stopped being surprised at me coming unannounced at any time of day or night and has come to expect it by asking me if I’m coming up. I think they love it as much as I[...]
A Weekly Summary
Tuesday, April 8th: Instead of going to my workshop in the morning, Mirjam wanted us to clean the kitchen of the missionary house and finish washing the dishes on the Hope House 7th floor for when the guests come for the 70th anniversary. In the afternoon, I started my first shift on the 7th floor of the Joy House. Esther taught me the routine and how to do everything I will need to do when I'm there. To be honest, it was a bit stressful learning it all. In the evening we had one of our last practices of our[...]
Workshops
The Workshops: Bakery: This is the workshop I'm in, and I love it. The two teachers are so nice, and since I've gotten to know the residents better, working with them has been fun. I love baking at home, and I've learned some new recipes that I hope to try out at home! We bake something every day, ranging from cakes, bread, cupcakes, cookies, etc... I come down at 8:55 am, but the residents are usually in the thick of things since they start their work at 8 am. Depending on the day, we bake different items. Once a week[...]
Readers Digest
I dropped the ball this week. It was Thursday night; I hadn't worked on a blog for this week and had absolutely no inspiration for a topic. My mom suggested I do a Reader's Digest-type style. I have 4 topics that I want to write about; some I've been wanting to for a while but would be too short for an individual blog. Besides, I only have a few more blogs left, so I'm trying to write about all the topics I would like to share with you before I'm home again. Topics: 1: recap week. 2: teachers in Bethesda.[...]
