Workshops

By |April 13th, 2025|Categories: Taiwan|

The Workshops: Bakery: This is the workshop I'm in, and I love it. The two teachers are so nice, and since I've gotten to know the residents better, working with them has been fun. I love baking at home, and I've learned some new recipes that I hope to try out at home! We bake something every day, ranging from cakes, bread, cupcakes, cookies, etc... I come down at 8:55 am, but the residents are usually in the thick of things since they start their work at 8 am. Depending on the day, we bake different items. Once a week[...]

Readers Digest

By |April 6th, 2025|Categories: Taiwan|

I dropped the ball this week. It was Thursday night; I hadn't worked on a blog for this week and had absolutely no inspiration for a topic. My mom suggested I do a Reader's Digest-type style. I have 4 topics that I want to write about; some I've been wanting to for a while but would be too short for an individual blog. Besides, I only have a few more blogs left, so I'm trying to write about all the topics I would like to share with you before I'm home again. Topics: 1: recap week. 2: teachers in Bethesda.[...]

Recap Week

Sunday, March 16th: Tian asked Mirjam if we could stay in Taipei one more day to go wedding dress shopping. We went to 4 shops that were in the most obscure locations; I have no idea how she found them. They aren’t your typical Western wedding dress shops that you can see a mile away. These shops were in apartment buildings, which you had to go up these dingy, skinny steps to enter, and then you entered this place with many beautiful dresses. There were two that Tian really liked, and she had a really hard time choosing which one[...]

Indispensable: A Disability & Ministry in Asia-Pacific Conference.

By |March 15th, 2025|Categories: Taiwan|

Warning: this blog post is super long. Life-changing. If I could describe the conference in one word, it would be that word. I had an amazing time. So much happened that I hope I can interestingly describe all that occurred without dragging on and on. I will break down each day as a whole and dive deeper into each workshop I attend. However, before I start, I hope and pray that this topic challenges you to think differently like it has caused me. Friday, March 14th: I woke up at 3:30 am, an hour early than needed, because I was[...]

10 Facts About Taiwan

By |March 13th, 2025|Categories: Taiwan|

Culture shock is always the big question when one comes to a new place, how and when will you adjust to the differences surrounding you? During one of our team meetings, Mirjam spoke about it, since it was Kajsa and my first time living in another nation for a long period of time. I find it very interesting to see how different Taiwan is compared to Canada, and I would be as bold to say the difference is pretty huge. I wouldn't say I have had too much of a culture shock, as I've been to China several times before[...]

Another Recap

By |March 7th, 2025|Categories: Taiwan|

Happy March! I've been here for one month; it’s crazy to think about that. I love it in Taiwan; it is beautiful here. You have the oceans, mountains, and forests all in one place! It has also been great serving the residents at Bethesda and becoming friends with them. I've had some time to myself, but I'm super busy with working, choir practices, drama practice, and watching dance practice, as well as hanging out with Kajsa and others, which leaves hardly any time to find spare time. I do still enjoy finding time to read, watch shows, shop, work on[...]
